How to Replace Compressor on Dodge & Chrysler?

The compressor replacing details and Procedure.

Please Note that this Procedure Covers all U.S. and Canadian models of the Chrysler/Dodge Avenger, Chrysler Sebring Coupe and Dodge Stratus/ Stratus Coupe models for Year 1999 to 2005.


The procedure is as follows:---
Compressor Removal/ Installation:---



CAUTION
Only a MVAC-trained, EPA-certified, automotive technician should service the A/C system or its components.


Use a refrigerant recovery unit to discharge refrigerant gas from the system.

Disconnect battery negative cable from remote negative terminal on shock tower and properly isolate to prevent accidental reconnection.

Remove or disconnect the following:
Condenser fan motor (3.0L engine)

Drive belt
High and low pressure hoses from A/C compressor and discard the O-rings
A/C compressor from bracket

To install:

Install or connect the following:

WARNING
Be certain to lubricate the O-rings with PAG A/C compressor oil

A/C compressor to bracket
High and low pressure hoses to A/C compressor with new O-rings
Drive belt and tension to 90-110 lbs. (400-490 N) for a used belt or 110-160 lbs. (490-712 N) for a new belt.
Condenser fan motor (3.0L engine).

1. Disconnect the battery negative cable.
2. Loosen and remove accessory drive belt .
3. Disconnect compressor clutch harness connector.
4. Recover refrigerant system with R-134a recovery unit.
5. Remove the refrigerant lines from compressor .

6. Remove the compressor attaching bolts.
7. Remove the compressor.

To install:

1. Position the compressor on the mount.
2. Install the compressor attaching bolts. Tighten bolts to 30 ft. lbs. (41 Nm).
3. Install the drive belt (refer to Engine Mechanical Section of this Manual).
4. Install the refrigerant hoses and new seals.
5. Connect the clutch harness connector.
6. Charge the system.
7. Connect the negative cable to the battery.

1. Disconnect the harness connector from the A/C compressor clutch coil connector.
2. Remove the bolts that secure the A/C suction line and A/C discharge line to the A/C compressor.

Dodge Sprinter AC compressor Removal?

The details to replace AC compressor on Dodge sprinter vehicle.

The procedure is as follows:---

NOTE

The A/C compressor may be removed and repositioned without disconnecting the refrigerant lines or discharging the refrigerant system. Discharging is not necessary if servicing the compressor clutch, clutch coil or the engine.

NOTE

If an internal failure of the A/C compressor has occurred, the receiver/drier must be replaced.

1. Recover the refrigerant from the refrigerant system.
2. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable.
3. Raise and support the vehicle.
4. Remove the accessory drive belt.
5. Disconnect the wire harness connector from the clutch field coil of the A/C compressor.
6. Remove the bolts that secure the underbody suction and discharge lines to the A/C compressor.
7. Disconnect the underbody suction and discharge lines from the A/C compressor and remove and discard the O-ring seals.
8. Install plugs in, or tape over the opened refrigerant line fittings and the compressor ports.
9. Remove the bolts that secure the A/C compressor to the mounting bracket.
10. Remove the A/C compressor from the engine compartment.

To install:

NOTE

Be certain to check the refrigerant oil level if the A/C compressor is being replaced. See Refrigerant Oil Level in this group for the procedures. Use only refrigerant oil of the type recommended for the A/C compressor in the vehicle.

NOTE

If an internal failure of the A/C compressor has occurred, the receiver/drier must be replaced.

1. Position the A/C compressor in the engine compartment and loosely install the three compressor retaining bolts. Tighten the bolts using the following sequence to 14 ft. lbs. (20 Nm).
   
   
   The upper bolt at the front of the compressor.
   

   The lower bolt at the front of the compressor.
   

   The bolt at the rear of the compressor.
   
2. Remove the tape or plugs from the opened underbody suction and discharge line fittings and compressor ports.
3. Lubricate new rubber O-ring seals with clean refrigerant oil and install them onto the suction and the discharge line fittings. Use only the specified O-rings as they are made of a special material for the R-134a system. Use only refrigerant oil of the type recommended for the A/C compressor in the vehicle.
4. Connect the underbody suction and discharge lines to the A/C compressor.
5. Install the bolts that secure the underbody suction and discharge lines to the A/C compressor. Tighten the bolts to 15 ft. lbs. (21 N·m).
6. Connect the wire harness connector to the A/C compressor clutch coil.
7. Install the accessory drive belt.
8. Lower the vehicle.
9. Replace the receiver/drier if the A/C compressor is being replaced due to an internal failure.
10. Reconnect the negative battery cable.
11. Evacuate the refrigerant system.
12. Charge the refrigerant system.

NOTE:--
Replacement of the refrigerant line O-ring seals is required anytime a refrigerant line is disconnected. Failure to replace the rubber O-ring seal may result in a refrigerant system leak.

If the A/C compressor is being replaced, 1.7 oz. (50 milliliters) of refrigerant oil must first be drained from the new A/C compressor . When replacing multiple A/C system components, refer to the Refrigerant Oil Capacities chart to determine how much oil should be added to the refrigerant system . Use only refrigerant oil of the type recommended for the A/C compressor in the vehicle.

Position the A/C compressor into the engine compartment.
Install the three bolts that secure the A/C compressor to the engine. Tighten the bolts to 15 ft. lbs. (20 N·m).
Remove the tape or plugs from the compressor ports and refrigerant line fittings.
Lubricate new rubber O-ring seals with clean refrigerant oil and install them onto the refrigerant line fittings. Use only the specified O-rings as they are made of a special material for the R-134a system. Use only refrigerant oil of the type recommended for the A/C compressor in the vehicl
Connect the A/C suction line and the A/C discharge line to the A/C compresso
Install the bolts that secure the A/C discharge and suction lines to the A/C compressor. Tighten the bolts to 16 ft. lbs. (22 N·m).
Connect the engine wire harness to the A/C compressor.
Install the accessory drive belt.
Lower the vehicle.
Reconnect the negative battery cable.

CAUTION:
DO NOT run the engine with a vacuum pump in operation or with a vacuum present within the A/C system. Failure to follow this caution will result in serious A/C compressor damage.

Evacuate the refrigerant system .
Charge the refrigerant system .

How to replace AC Compressor on Chrysler Aspen and Dodge Durango?

Dodge Durango A/C Compressor Removal.And Chrysler Aspen Compressor replacing procedure.

The complete step by step details to replace compressor for 3.7L & 4.7L Engines is as follows:----

The compressor may be removed and repositioned without disconnecting the refrigerant lines or discharging the refrigerant system. Discharging is not necessary if servicing the compressor clutch or clutch coil, the engine, the cylinder head, or the generator.

NOTE

See illustration for parts reference.

1. Recover the refrigerant from the refrigerant system.
2. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable.
3. Remove the accessory drive.
4. Disconnect the wire harness connector from the A/C compressor clutch coil.
5. Remove the nuts that secure the A/C suction line and A/C discharge line to the A/C compressor.
6. Disconnect the A/C suction and discharge lines from the A/C compressor and remove and discard the O-ring seals and gaskets.
7. Install plugs in, or tape over, the opened refrigerant line fittings and compressor ports.
8. Remove the bolts (1, 2, and 3) that secure the A/C compressor (4) to the mounting bracket (6).
9. Remove the A/C compressor from the engine compartment.

To install:

NOTE

See illustration for parts reference.

WARNING

: If a replacement compressor is being installed, be certain to check the refrigerant oil level. Use only refrigerant oil of the type recommended for the compressor in the vehicle.

1. Position the A/C compressor (4) onto the mounting bracket (6) in the engine compartment.
2. Install and tighten the bolts in the following sequence:
   
   
   Install bolt (3) and hand tighten.

   Install bolt (2) and hand tighten.

   Install bolt (1) and hand tighten.

   Tighten bolt (3) to 40 Nm (30 ft. lbs.).

   Tighten bolt (2) to 55 Nm (41 ft. lbs.).

   Tighten bolt (1) to 55 Nm (41 ft. lbs.).
3. Remove the tape or plugs from the opened suction line fitting (2) and the discharge line fitting (3) and the compressor ports (4).
4. Lubricate new rubber O-ring seals with clean refrigerant oil and install them and new gaskets onto the suction and the discharge line fittings.
   
   NOTE

   Use only the specified O-rings as they are made of a special material for the R-134a system. Use only refrigerant oil of the type recommended for the A/C compressor in the vehicle.
5. Install the A/C suction and discharge lines onto the A/C compressor.
6. Install the nuts (1) that secure the suction and discharge lines to the A/C compressor. Tighten the nuts to 23 Nm (17 ft. lbs.).
7. Connect the wire harness connector to the A/C compressor clutch coil.
8. Install the accessory drive belt.
9. Reconnect the negative battery cable.
10. Evacuate the refrigerant system.
11. Charge the refrigerant system.
