5.7L Cylinder head Removal?

The Procedure mentioned Covers Dodge Ram 1500, 2500, 3500, 2WD & 4WD. Its For 2001 – 2005 Year Models.

5.7L Cylinder head removal.


  1. Drain the cooling system.
  2. Properly relieve the fuel system pressure.
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Negative battery cable
    Air cleaner resonator and ducts
    Alternator
    Closed crankcase ventilation system
    EVAP control system
    Heater hoses
    Cylinder head covers
    Intake manifold
    Rocker arms and pushrods
    Cylinder heads
To install:

NOTE
The head gaskets are not interchangeable. They are marked -L- and -R-.

  1. Install the cylinder heads. Use new gaskets and tighten the bolts, in sequence, as follows:
    1. Step 1: 12 mm bolts-25 ft. lbs. (34 Nm); 8mm bolts-15 ft. lbs. (20 Nm)
    2. Step 2: 12mm bolts-40 ft. lbs. (54 Nm); 8mm bolts retorque-15 ft. lbs. (20 Nm)
    3. Step 3: 12mm bolts-plus 90 degrees; 8mm bolts-25 ft. lbs. (34 Nm)
  2. Install or connect the following:

    Rocker arms and pushrods
    Intake manifold
    Heater hoses
    Alternator
    Cylinder head covers. Torque the studs and bolts to 70 inch lbs.
    Air cleaner resonator and ducts
    Negative battery cable
