Camshaft Position Sensor Details For Cadillac?

In this section he details are provided for Camshaft Position Sensor DESCRIPTION & OPERATION.

The camshaft position (CMP) sensor is also a magneto resistive sensor, with the same type of circuits as the crankshaft position (CKP) sensor. The CMP sensor signal is a digital ON/OFF pulse, output once per revolution of the camshaft. The CMP sensor information is used by the PCM to determine the position of the valve train relative to the crankshaft position.

The camshaft reluctor wheel is part of the camshaft sprocket. The reluctor wheel profile is a smooth track, half of which is of a lower profile than the other half. This allows the CMP sensor to supply a signal as soon as the key is turned ON, since the CMP sensor reads the track profile, instead of a notch.

These details will help.
Thanks.

Ford Focus Camshaft Position (CMP) Sensor?

Camshaft Position (CMP) Sensor
OPERATION
REMOVAL & INSTALLATION
TESTING

The details are as follows :---

Operation

The CMP sensor provides camshaft position information which is used by the PCM for fuel synchronization. The CMP sensor detects the position of the camshaft. The CMP sensor identifies when piston No. 1 is on its compression stroke. A signal is then sent to the PCM and used for synchronizing the sequential firing of the fuel injectors. Coil-on-plug (COP) ignition applications use the CMP signal to select the proper ignition coil to fire. The input circuit to the PCM is referred to as the CMP input or circuit. DTC P0340 is associated with this sensor.

Removal & Installation

  1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
  2. Remove the Camshaft Position (CMP) sensor as follows:
    1. Disconnect the CMP sensor electrical connector (1).
    2. Remove the bolt retaining the CMP sensor (2).
    3. Remove the CMP sensor (3).
  3. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
  4. Use a new O-ring, lubricated with clean engine oil.
  5. Tighten the sensor to 15 ft. lbs. (20 Nm).

Testing

With the CMP sensor connector disconnected, measure the resistance between the sensor pins. Resistance should be between 250-1000 ohms.
