HVAC Front Heater core Removal For Dodge VAN?

In this chapter the details are for Dodge Caravan and Chrysler Town and Country  Car models.

The procedure to Remove HVAC heater core is as follows:----


  1. Align the wheels in the straight-ahead position.
  2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
    CAUTION
    Before working around the steering wheel or the instrument panel all 2 minutes to pass to allow the air bag module to discharge.
  3. Drain the cooling system into a clean container for reuse.
  4. Remove the steering column, by removing or disconnect the following:

    Lower left side steering column cover
    Parking brake release cable from the parking brake lever
    10 steering column cover liner-to-instrument panel bolts and the cover liner
  5. Rotate the key to the LOCK position; then, rotate the steering wheel to the LOCKED position.

    Gear selector cable and its mounting bracket as an assembly from the upper steering column mounting bracket
    2 instrument cluster trim bezel-to-instrument panel screws, retaining clips and bezel
    2 steering column shroud-to-steering column screws and the shroud
    Steering column-to-intermediate steering shaft coupler
  6. Loosen but do not remove the 2 lower steering column mounting bracket nuts/washers.

    2 upper steering column mounting bracket nuts/washers
    Steering column assembly from the vehicle
  7. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Instrument panel-to-chassis harness interconnect and bracket
    Lower silencer boot, at the base of the steering shaft
  8. Working in the engine compartment, pinch off the heater hoses.

    Heater core cover. Position some towels under the heater core hoses.
    Heater core plate and the hoses
  9. Depress the heater core retaining clips.
  10. Lift the accelerator pedal and slide the heater core past it.
  11. Depress the brake pedal and remove the heater core from the heater/air conditioning housing assembly.

To install:
  1. Depress the brake pedal and install the heater core into the heater/air conditioning housing assembly.
  2. Lift the accelerator pedal and slide the heater core past it.
  3. Install or connect the following:

    Heater hoses (using new O-rings) and the heater core plate
    Heater core cover
    Heater hoses clamps, working in the engine compartment
    Lower silencer boot at the base of the steering shaft
    Instrument panel-to-chassis harness interconnect and bracket
  4. Install the steering column assembly by installing or connect the following:

    Steering column assembly, carefully into the vehicle.
    2 upper and 2 lower steering column mounting bracket nuts/washers. Torque the nuts to 105 inch lbs. (12 Nm).
    Steering column-to-intermediate steering shaft coupler and tighten the pinch bolt to 21 ft. lbs. (28 Nm)
    2 steering column shroud and the shroud-to-steering column screws
    Bezel, the retaining clips and the 2 instrument cluster trim bezel-to-instrument panel screws
    Gear selector cable and its mounting bracket as an assembly to the upper steering column mounting bracket
    10 steering column cover liner and the cover liner-to-instrument panel bolts
    Parking brake release cable to the parking brake lever
    Lower left side steering column cover.

  5. Refill the cooling system.
  6. Connect the negative battery cable.
  7. Run the engine to normal operating temperatures; then, check the climate control operation and check for leaks.

How to replace Heater core on Chevy Malibu?

In this chapter details are provided to replace Heater core on Chevy Malibu.

The heater core replacing procedure is as follows:----


  1. Disable the Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) system.
  2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  3. Drain the coolant.
  4. Remove the inlet heater hose at the heater core.
  5. Remove the outlet heater hose at the heater core.
  6. Recover the refrigerant.
    NOTE
    Cap all A/C components immediately to prevent system contamination.
  7. Remove the suction hose at the Thermostatic Expansion Valve (TXV).
  8. Remove the liquid line at the TXV.
  9. Remove and discard the sealing washers.
  10. Disconnect the HVAC module to front of dash plate bolts.
  11. Remove the right console trim panel.
  12. Remove the left console trim panel.
  13. Remove the console.

  14. Remove the left closeout panel.
  15. Remove both Instrument Panel (I/P) outer trim panels.
  16. Remove the I/P to the body wire harness and antenna LH connectors.
  17. Remove the I/P to the wire harness RH connectors.
  18. Remove the knee bolster.
  19. Remove the accelerator pedal.
  20. Remove the steering column to the I/P wire harness connector.
  21. Remove the crush bracket to the front of dash plate nuts.
  22. Remove the upper steering column shroud from the lower shroud.
  23. Remove the stalk switches and the SIR coil connectors.
  24. Position the steering wheel in full forward telescoping position.
  25. Position the front seat in the full rearward position.
  26. Remove the steering column mounting bolts.
  27. Lower the steering column to the floor.
  28. Remove the brake pedal assembly.
  29. Remove the Body Control Module (BCM).
  30. Remove the center support bracket floor bolts.
  31. Remove the shifter assembly.
  32. Remove both windshield pillar garnish moldings.
  33. Remove the I/P upper trim panel.
  34. Remove the I/P body LH bolts.

  35. Remove the I/P body RH bolts.
  36. Remove the right hand floor heater duct at the center floor heater duct.
  37. Remove the left hand floor heater duct at the center floor heater duct.
  38. Remove the I/P assembly.
  39. Remove the recirculation actuator wire harness connector.
  40. Remove the air temperature actuator wire harness connector.
  41. Remove the mode actuator wire harness connector.
  42. Remove the blower motor wire harness connector.
  43. Remove the blower motor resistor wire harness connector.
  44. Remove the left hand side window defogger outlet duct.
  45. Remove the lower floor duct push-in fastener.
  46. Remove the HVAC module assembly mounting bolts.
  47. Remove the HVAC module assembly.

  48. Remove the lower center floor air outlet duct
  49. Remove the upper center floor air outlet duct screws.
  50. Remove the upper center floor air outlet duct
  51. Drill out the heater core cover heat stakes.
  52. Remove the heater core cover screws.
  53. Remove the heater core cover.
  54. Remove the heater core.

To install:
  1. Install heater core.
  2. Install the heater core cover.
  3. Install heater core screws and tighten to 13 inch. lbs. (1.5 Nm).
  4. Install the upper center floor air outlet duct.
  5. Install the upper center floor air outlet duct screws and tighten to 13 inch. lbs. (1.5 Nm).
  6. Install the lower center floor air outlet duct.
  7. Install the HVAC module assembly.
  8. Install the HVAC module assembly mounting bolts and tighten to 44 inch. lbs. (5 Nm).
  9. Install the lower floor duct push-in fastener.
  10. Install the left hand side window defogger outlet duct.
  11. Install the blower motor resistor wire harness connector.
  12. Install the blower motor wire harness connector.
  13. Install the mode actuator wire harness connector.
  14. Install the air temperature actuator wire harness connector.
  15. Install the recirculation actuator wire harness connector.
  16. Install the I/P assembly.
  17. Install the left hand floor heater duct at the center floor heater duct.
  18. Install the right hand floor heater duct at the center floor heater duct.
  19. Install the I/P body RH/LH bolts and tighten to 19 ft. lbs. (26 Nm).
  20. Install the I/P upper trim panel.
  21. Install both windshield pillar garnish moldings.
  22. Install the shifter assembly.
  23. Install the center support bracket floor bolts and tighten to 89 inch. lbs. (10 Nm).
  24. Install the BCM and tighten mounting screws to 22 inch. lbs. (2.5 Nm).
  25. Install the brake pedal assembly tighten bolts to 18 ft. lbs. 25 Nm), tighten nuts to 11 ft. lbs. (15 Nm).
  26. Install the steering column assembly and tighten bolts starting with the lower bolt first then left to right. Tighten to 18 ft. lbs. (27 Nm).
  27. Install the stalk switches and the SIR coil connectors.
  28. Install the upper steering column shroud and tighten screws to 13 inch. lbs. (1.5 Nm).
  29. Install the crush bracket to the front of dash plate nuts and tighten to 89 inch. lbs. (10 Nm).
  30. Install the steering column to the I/P wire harness connector.
  31. Install the accelerator pedal.
  32. Install the knee bolster.
  33. Install the I/P to the body wire harness RH connectors.
  34. Install the I/P to the body wire harness and antenna LH connectors.
  35. Install both I/P outer trim panels.
  36. Install the left closeout panel.
  37. Install the console and tighten mounting bolts and screws to 10 inch. lbs. (1 Nm).
  38. Install the left and right console trim panel
  39. Install the HVAC module to front of dash plate bolts and tighten to 35 inch. lbs. (4 Nm).
  40. Install new sealing washers.
  41. Install the liquid line and the suction hose at the TXV.
  42. Tighten the liquid line and suction hose nut to 15 ft. lbs. (20 Nm).
  43. Evacuate and charge the refrigerant system.
  44. Install the outlet and inlet heater hoses at the heater core, tighten the clamps.
  45. Fill and bleed the cooling system.
  46. Enable the SIR system.
  47. Connect the negative battery cable.
