In this chapter details are provided to replace Heater core on Chevy Malibu.

The heater core replacing procedure is as follows:----
- Disable the Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) system.
- Disconnect the negative battery cable.
- Drain the coolant.
- Remove the inlet heater hose at the heater core.
- Remove the outlet heater hose at the heater core.
- Recover the refrigerant.
NOTECap all A/C components immediately to prevent system contamination. - Remove the suction hose at the Thermostatic Expansion Valve (TXV).
- Remove the liquid line at the TXV.
- Remove and discard the sealing washers.
- Disconnect the HVAC module to front of dash plate bolts.
- Remove the right console trim panel.
- Remove the left console trim panel.
- Remove the console.
- Remove the left closeout panel.
- Remove both Instrument Panel (I/P) outer trim panels.
- Remove the I/P to the body wire harness and antenna LH connectors.
- Remove the I/P to the wire harness RH connectors.
- Remove the knee bolster.
- Remove the accelerator pedal.
- Remove the steering column to the I/P wire harness connector.
- Remove the crush bracket to the front of dash plate nuts.
- Remove the upper steering column shroud from the lower shroud.
- Remove the stalk switches and the SIR coil connectors.
- Position the steering wheel in full forward telescoping position.
- Position the front seat in the full rearward position.
- Remove the steering column mounting bolts.
- Lower the steering column to the floor.
- Remove the brake pedal assembly.
- Remove the Body Control Module (BCM).
- Remove the center support bracket floor bolts.
- Remove the shifter assembly.
- Remove both windshield pillar garnish moldings.
- Remove the I/P upper trim panel.
- Remove the I/P body LH bolts.
- Remove the I/P body RH bolts.
- Remove the right hand floor heater duct at the center floor heater duct.
- Remove the left hand floor heater duct at the center floor heater duct.
- Remove the I/P assembly.
- Remove the recirculation actuator wire harness connector.
- Remove the air temperature actuator wire harness connector.
- Remove the mode actuator wire harness connector.
- Remove the blower motor wire harness connector.
- Remove the blower motor resistor wire harness connector.
- Remove the left hand side window defogger outlet duct.
- Remove the lower floor duct push-in fastener.
- Remove the HVAC module assembly mounting bolts.
- Remove the HVAC module assembly.
- Remove the lower center floor air outlet duct
- Remove the upper center floor air outlet duct screws.
- Remove the upper center floor air outlet duct
- Drill out the heater core cover heat stakes.
- Remove the heater core cover screws.
- Remove the heater core cover.
- Remove the heater core.
To install:
- Install heater core.
- Install the heater core cover.
- Install heater core screws and tighten to 13 inch. lbs. (1.5 Nm).
- Install the upper center floor air outlet duct.
- Install the upper center floor air outlet duct screws and tighten to 13 inch. lbs. (1.5 Nm).
- Install the lower center floor air outlet duct.
- Install the HVAC module assembly.
- Install the HVAC module assembly mounting bolts and tighten to 44 inch. lbs. (5 Nm).
- Install the lower floor duct push-in fastener.
- Install the left hand side window defogger outlet duct.
- Install the blower motor resistor wire harness connector.
- Install the blower motor wire harness connector.
- Install the mode actuator wire harness connector.
- Install the air temperature actuator wire harness connector.
- Install the recirculation actuator wire harness connector.
- Install the I/P assembly.
- Install the left hand floor heater duct at the center floor heater duct.
- Install the right hand floor heater duct at the center floor heater duct.
- Install the I/P body RH/LH bolts and tighten to 19 ft. lbs. (26 Nm).
- Install the I/P upper trim panel.
- Install both windshield pillar garnish moldings.
- Install the shifter assembly.
- Install the center support bracket floor bolts and tighten to 89 inch. lbs. (10 Nm).
- Install the BCM and tighten mounting screws to 22 inch. lbs. (2.5 Nm).
- Install the brake pedal assembly tighten bolts to 18 ft. lbs. 25 Nm), tighten nuts to 11 ft. lbs. (15 Nm).
- Install the steering column assembly and tighten bolts starting with the lower bolt first then left to right. Tighten to 18 ft. lbs. (27 Nm).
- Install the stalk switches and the SIR coil connectors.
- Install the upper steering column shroud and tighten screws to 13 inch. lbs. (1.5 Nm).
- Install the crush bracket to the front of dash plate nuts and tighten to 89 inch. lbs. (10 Nm).
- Install the steering column to the I/P wire harness connector.
- Install the accelerator pedal.
- Install the knee bolster.
- Install the I/P to the body wire harness RH connectors.
- Install the I/P to the body wire harness and antenna LH connectors.
- Install both I/P outer trim panels.
- Install the left closeout panel.
- Install the console and tighten mounting bolts and screws to 10 inch. lbs. (1 Nm).
- Install the left and right console trim panel
- Install the HVAC module to front of dash plate bolts and tighten to 35 inch. lbs. (4 Nm).
- Install new sealing washers.
- Install the liquid line and the suction hose at the TXV.
- Tighten the liquid line and suction hose nut to 15 ft. lbs. (20 Nm).
- Evacuate and charge the refrigerant system.
- Install the outlet and inlet heater hoses at the heater core, tighten the clamps.
- Fill and bleed the cooling system.
- Enable the SIR system.
- Connect the negative battery cable.
