Procedure To Replace Timing Belt Rear Cover On Dodge and Chrysler?

The Details procedure on How to replace Timing Belt Rear Cover.

Please Note that this Procedure Covers all U.S. and Canadian models of the Chrysler/Dodge Avenger, Chrysler Sebring Coupe and Dodge Stratus/ Stratus Coupe models for Year 1999 to 2005.

The Rear timing belt cover removal is as follows:---


  1. Remove the upper and lower front timing belt covers.
  2. Remove the timing belt.
  3. Remove the timing belt idler pulley.
  4. Remove both camshaft sprockets. Hold the camshaft sprockets with Special Tool 6847 while removing the center bolts.
  5. Remove the rear timing belt cover fasteners and remove the cover from the engine.

To install:
  1. Install the rear timing belt cover and fasteners. Torque the fasteners to specified values

    The M6 Bolts: 106 inch lbs. (12 Nm)
    The M8 Bolts: 21 ft. lbs. (28 Nm)
  2. Install the camshaft sprockets. Hold the camshaft sprockets with Special Tool 6847 while tightening the center bolts to 85 ft. lbs. (115 Nm).
  3. Install the timing belt idler pulley.
  4. Install the timing belt.
  5. Install the upper and lower front timing belt covers.

Timing Belt Front Cover Replacing on Stratus, Avenger and Sebring?

In this chapter details are provided to replace Timing belt Front cover.



Please Note that this Procedure Covers all U.S. and Canadian models of the Chrysler/Dodge Avenger, Chrysler Sebring Coupe and Dodge Stratus/ Stratus Coupe models for Year 1999 to 2005

The Procedure is as follows:---

Front Cover-Lower:---
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  3. Remove right front wheel and belt splash shield.
  4. Remove the accessory drive belts.
  5. Remove the crankshaft damper. Refer to Crankshaft Damper, removal & installation.
  6. Remove the Air Conditioning (A/C) / alternator belt tensioner.
  7. Lower the vehicle.
  8. Disconnect the alternator connectors.
  9. Remove the alternator and bracket.
  10. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  11. Remove the fasteners attaching the lower timing cover (Front Timing Belt Covers).
  12. Remove lower timing cover.

To install:
  1. Install the lower timing belt cover and torque fasteners to 53 inch lbs. (6 Nm).
  2. Lower the vehicle.
  3. Install the alternator and bracket.
  4. Connect the alternator connectors.
  5. Raise the vehicle.
  6. Install A/C and alternator belt tensioner.
  7. Install the crankshaft damper. Refer to Crankshaft Damper, removal & installation.
  8. Install the accessory drive belts.
  9. Install the belt splash shield and right front wheel. Tighten the wheel lug nuts to 100 ft. lbs. (136 Nm).
  10. Lower the vehicle.
  11. Connect the negative battery cable.
Front Cover-Upper
  1. Remove the upper timing belt cover fasteners.
  2. Remove the cover.
To install:
  1. Install the timing belt cover. Torque fasteners to 53 inch lbs. (6 Nm).

Replace Timing Belt Rear Cover on Chrysler Cruiser?

The complete Timing Belt Rear Cover replacing procedure.

The details with step by step info and diagrams is as follows:---

Rear cover removal/ install


Remove the front timing belt covers.
Remove the timing belt.
Remove the timing belt idler pulley.
Remove the camshaft sprockets. Use Special Tool 6847 to hold camshaft sprockets while removing the sprocket bolts.
Remove the rear timing belt cover fasteners and remove the cover from the engine.

To install:

  1. Install the rear timing belt cover and fasteners.
  2. Install the timing belt idler pulley. Torque the timing belt idler pulley fastener to 45 ft. lbs. (61 Nm). 
  3. WARNING
  4. Do not use an impact wrench to tighten camshaft sprocket bolts. Damage to the camshaft-to-sprocket locating dowel pin may occur.

  5. Install the camshaft sprockets. Hold the sprockets with Special Tool 6847 while tightening the center bolt to 85 ft. lbs. (115 Nm).
  6. Install the timing belt.
  7. Install the front timing belt covers.

Chrysler Cruiser Timing Belt Front Cover Removal?

The complete details to replace timing belt front cover.

The procedure with details and diagrams.

Chrysler Timing Belt Front Cover Removal / install is as follows:----

Lower
  1. Disconnect negative battery cable.
  2. Raise and safely support the vehicle. Remove right front wheel.
  3. Remove the right splash shield.
  4. Remove accessory drive belts.
  5. Remove crankshaft damper.
  6. Remove the lower torque strut.
  7. Disconnect exhaust system from manifold.
  8. Disconnect A/C pressure switch at rear of compressor housing.
  9. Lower vehicle and support engine with a jack.
  10. Discharge A/C system and disconnect A/C lines at coupling block.
  11. Remove upper torque strut.
  12. Remove screw attaching ground strap to strut bracket.
  13. Remove torque strut bracket from strut tower.
  14. Remove upper radiator closure panel.
  15. Remove power steering pump and bracket. Set pump aside. Do not disconnect lines from pump.
  16. With engine properly supported, remove right engine mount through bolt.
  17. Raise engine with jack until engine support bracket bolts are accessible.
  18. Remove engine support bracket.
  19. Remove timing belt cover fasteners and remove cover.
To install:
  1. Install lower timing belt cover and tighten fasteners to 50 inch lbs. (6 Nm).
  2. Install right engine support bracket. Ensure the power steering pump is properly located in mounting location on bracket. Tighten mount bracket bolts to 45 ft. lbs. (61 Nm).
  3. Lower engine into mounting position and install right engine mount through bolt. Tighten bolt to 87 ft. lbs. (118 Nm).
  4. Install power steering pump and bracket.
  5. Install upper radiator closure panel.
  6. Install torque strut bracket to strut tower.
  7. Connect ground strap to bracket.
  8. Install upper torque strut.
  9. Connect A/C lines and charge A/C system.
  10. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  11. Connect exhaust system to manifold.
  12. Connect A/C pressure switch connector.
  13. Install crankshaft damper.
  14. Install accessory drive belts.
  15. Install lower torque strut.
  16. Perform torque strut adjustment procedure.
  17. Install right splash shield.
  18. Install right front wheel. Tighten the wheel lug nuts to 100 ft. lbs. (136 Nm).
  19. Connect the negative cable to the battery.
Upper
  1. Remove upper torque strut attaching bolts and set strut aside.
  2. Turbocharger equipped vehicles:
  3. Discharge and evacuate the A/C system. Refer to the Heating & Air Conditioning Section.
  4. Disconnect air conditioning lines at junction block near upper timing belt cover.
  5. Remove upper timing belt cover fasteners and remove cover.

To install:
  1. Install timing belt cover and tighten fasteners to 50 inch lbs. (6 Nm).
  2. Install upper torque strut.
  3. Turbocharger equipped vehicles:

    Connect air conditioning lines at junction block near upper timing belt cover.
    Recharge the A/C.
  4. Perform torque strut adjustment procedure.
