How to remove Heater Core on 2005 Ford Explorer ?

Removal & Installation




NOTE
Lubricate the coolant hoses with plain water only if needed.

  1. Position the vehicle on a hoist with the gear selector in NEUTRAL.
  2. Using suitable tools, clamp-off the underbody heater hoses at the floor pan bracket.
  3. Remove the parts in the order indicated in the following illustrations.
    NOTE
    Item (4), the screw and line bracket are located inside the vehicle above the floor pan line bracket.

    (3) Auxiliary line floor pan bracket nut (2 req'd)
    (4) Line bracket screw (4 req'd)

    (7) Auxiliary housing bolt
    (8) Auxiliary housing bolt

    (11) Blend door actuator screw (3 req'd)

    (16) Heater core cover
    (17) Clamp
    (18) Clamp
    (19) Auxiliary heater core


To Install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of removal.
  2. Fill the engine cooling system.
  3. Observe the following tightening torques:

    Auxiliary housing bolts, 62 inch lbs (7 Nm)
    Auxiliary housing nut, 62 inch lbs (7 Nm)



NOTE

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.
  2. Fill the engine cooling system.
  3. Observe the following tightening specifications:

    Auxiliary housing bolts, 62 inch lbs (7 Nm)
    Auxiliary housing nut, 62 inch lbs (7 Nm)
