How to remove Flywheel on 2005 ford explorer?


Flywheel/Flexplate & Ring Gear



Removal & Installation

  1. Remove the transmission.
  2. On a manual shift transmission, remove the clutch pressure plate and cover assembly and clutch disc.

    Fig. Lock the flywheel in place and remove the retaining bolts . . .
  3. Remove the flywheel attaching bolts and remove the flywheel.

    Fig. . . . then remove the flywheel from the crankshaft
To install:
  1. Position the flywheel on the crankshaft flange. Coat the threads of the flywheel attaching bolts with Loctite®or equivalent and install the bolts. Tighten the bolts in sequence across from each other. Refer to the Torque Specification table for proper torque values.

    Fig. Upon installation, apply a thread-locking compound to the flywheel bolts
  2. On a manual shift transmission, install the clutch disc and pressure plate and cover assembly.
  3. Install the transmission.
