5.7L Cylinder head removal.
- Drain the cooling system.
- Properly relieve the fuel system pressure.
- Remove or disconnect the following:
Negative battery cableAir cleaner resonator and ductsAlternatorClosed crankcase ventilation systemEVAP control systemHeater hosesCylinder head coversIntake manifoldRocker arms and pushrodsCylinder heads
To install:
NOTE
The head gaskets are not interchangeable. They are marked -L- and -R-.
Cylinder head torque sequence-5.7L engine
- Install the cylinder heads. Use new gaskets and tighten the bolts, in sequence, as follows:
- Step 1: 12 mm bolts-25 ft. lbs. (34 Nm); 8mm bolts-15 ft. lbs. (20 Nm)
- Step 2: 12mm bolts-40 ft. lbs. (54 Nm); 8mm bolts retorque-15 ft. lbs. (20 Nm)
- Step 3: 12mm bolts-plus 90 degrees; 8mm bolts-25 ft. lbs. (34 Nm)
- Install or connect the following:
Rocker arms and pushrodsIntake manifoldHeater hosesAlternatorCylinder head covers. Torque the studs and bolts to 70 inch lbs.Air cleaner resonator and ductsNegative battery cable
