Intake Manifold
REMOVAL & INSTALLATION
VIN H DOHC Engine
Lower
- Before servicing the vehicle, please familiarize yourself with safety procedures.
- Remove the upper intake manifold.
- Disconnect the spring lock couplings.
- Remove the cooling fan.
- Remove the accessory drive belt tensioner.
- Remove the accessory drive belt.
- Remove the wire harness retainer.
- Remove the alternator.
- Remove the alternator bracket studs.
- Remove the upper coolant hose.
- Remove the coolant bypass hose.
- Remove the thermostat housing coolant hose.
- Remove the engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor electrical connector.
- Remove the coolant crossover tube.
- Remove the vacuum hose.
- Remove the engine harness retainers.
- Remove the fuel rail pressure (FRP) sensor electrical connector.
- Remove the intake manifold runner control (IMRC) motor electrical connector.
- Remove the fuel injector connectors.
- Remove the lower intake manifold bolts.
- Remove the lower intake manifold assembly.
- Remove the intake manifold gaskets.
To install:
- Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.
NOTEHand-start all fasteners.
- Tighten all fasteners in the sequence shown in the illustration to 89 inch lbs. (10 Nm).
- Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the -Precautions- section.
- Remove the upper intake manifold.
- Disconnect the spring lock couplings.
- Remove the cooling fan.
- Remove the accessory drive belt tensioner.
- Remove the accessory drive belt.
- Remove the wire harness retainer.
- Remove the alternator.
- Remove the alternator bracket studs.
- Remove the upper coolant hose.
- Remove the coolant bypass hose.
- Remove the thermostat housing coolant hose.
- Remove the engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor electrical connector.
- Remove the coolant crossover tube.
- Remove the vacuum hose.
- Remove the engine harness retainers.
- Remove the fuel rail pressure (FRP) sensor electrical connector.
- Remove the intake manifold runner control (IMRC) motor electrical connector.
- Remove the fuel injector connectors.
- Remove the lower intake manifold bolts.
- Remove the lower intake manifold assembly.
- Remove the intake manifold gaskets.
- Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure, noting the following:
NOTEHand-start all fasteners.
- Before servicing the vehicle, please familiarize yourself with safety procedures.
- Disconnect the battery ground cable.
- Drain the cooling system.
- Remove the air cleaner outlet pipe.
- Remove the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system module.
- Remove the positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) valve hose.
- Remove the brake booster vacuum hose.
- Remove the evaporative emissions (EVAP) hose.
- Remove the coolant hose clamp.
- Remove the PCV coolant hose.
- Remove the coolant hose clamp.
- Remove the PCV coolant hose.
- Remove the accelerator cable.
- Remove the speed control cable.
- Remove the accelerator cable return spring.
- Remove the accelerator cable pin-type retainer.
- Remove the accelerator cable bracket.
- Remove the idle air control (IAC) valve electrical connector.
- Remove the throttle position (TP) sensor electrical connector.
- Remove the fuel rail shield.
- Remove the radio capacitor.
- Remove the upper intake manifold bolts.
- Remove the upper intake manifold studs.
- Remove the upper intake manifold.
To install:
- Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.
NOTELocations 5 and 9 use studs. - Tighten the bolts and studs in the sequence shown to 89 inch lbs. (10 Nm).
- Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the -Precautions- section.
- Disconnect the battery ground cable.
- Drain the cooling system.
- Remove the air cleaner outlet pipe.
- Remove the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system module.
- Remove the positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) valve hose.
- Remove the brake booster vacuum hose.
- Remove the evaporative emissions (EVAP) hose.
- Remove the coolant hose clamp.
- Remove the PCV coolant hose.
- Remove the coolant hose clamp.
- Remove the PCV coolant hose.
- Remove the accelerator cable.
- Remove the speed control cable.
- Remove the accelerator cable return spring.
- Remove the accelerator cable pin-type retainer.
- Remove the accelerator cable bracket.
- Remove the idle air control (IAC) valve electrical connector.
- Remove the throttle position (TP) sensor electrical connector.
- Remove the fuel rail shield.
- Remove the radio capacitor.
- Remove the upper intake manifold bolts.
- Remove the upper intake manifold studs.
- Remove the upper intake manifold.
- Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure. Tighten the bolts and studs in the sequence shown to 89 inch lbs. (10 Nm).
NOTELocations 5 and 9 use studs.

Tilt the manifold to slide it out from underneath the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) tube.To install, reverse the removal procedure. Tighten retaining bolts is sequence shown.
- Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the -Precautions- section.
- Relieve the fuel system pressure.
- Drain the cooling system.
- Remove or disconnect the following:

To install:
- Clean all mating surfaces.
- Position the intake manifold and new gasket.
- Tighten the intake manifold bolts, in sequence shown, to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).
- Apply dielectric compound to the inside of the coil boots, then install all 8 ignition coils and the bolts.
- Install or connect the following:
Wire harness locators and the KS electrical connector to the back of the intake manifoldLH fuel injector and coil pack electrical connectors and the fuel charging wiring harness retainersRH fuel injector, coil pack electrical connectors and the wiring harness retainersGround wireEGR system module electrical connectorCoolant outlet hose anchor to the fuel rail studHeated PCV coolant outlet hose and position the clampHeated PCV coolant inlet hose and position the clampEVAP hose to the throttle body adapterFuel pressure sensor electrical connectorTP sensor and the electronic throttle body electrical connectorsThermostat, with a new O-ring; tighten housing bolts to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm)PCV valve tubeVacuum harness and connect the fuel pressure sensor and EGR system module vacuum fittingsVacuum tube to the throttle body adapterHeater control vacuum hose fittingCrankcase breather tube and connect it to the valve coverHeater hose and position the clampBrake booster vacuum tube and connect it to the throttle body adapter, install the vacuum tube bracket boltUpper radiator hose to the thermostat housingFuel tube spring lock couplingAlternatorEGR tubeAir cleaner outlet pipeBattery ground cable - Refill and bleed the engine cooling system.
