Camshaft Position Sensor TESTING on Ford Focus?

Camshaft Position Sensor
TESTING
Details are as follows :---

Testing

1.8L Engines
Obd-II System

image
Fig. CMP sensor wiring schematic-1.8L engine with OBD-II system
  1. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
  2. Set a DVOM to a low DC voltage range (under 20 volts).
  3. Backprobe the ground terminal of the distributor connector with the negative lead.
  4. Backprobe the VPWR terminal of the distributor connector with the positive lead.
  5. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position. The DVOM should read battery voltage. If not, check the wiring to the PCM.
  6. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
  7. Back probe the CMP1 terminal of the distributor connector with the positive lead.
  8. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
  9. Bump the starter to rotate the engine, but do not start the engine.
  10. As the vanes in the distributor pass through the Hall effect sensor the voltage should switch back and forth between 5 volts and less than 1 volt.
  11. Perform the same test on the CMP 2 terminal.
  12. If the voltage doesn't vary, check that the distributor is rotating. If the distributor is rotating, the CMP sensor may be defective.
1.9L And 2.0L Engines

  1. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
  2. Set a DVOM on the AC scale to read less than 5 volts.
  3. Connect jumper wires from the CMP sensor connector to the wiring harness. This permits the engine to operate normally while you check the sensor.
  4. Backprobe the CID (-) or CMP (-) terminal of the sensor with the negative lead.
  5. Backprobe the CID (+) or CMP (+) terminal of the sensor with the positive lead.
  6. Vary the engine rpm by turning the throttle assembly.
  7. The voltage reading should vary by more than 0.1 volt AC.
  8. If the voltage is not as specified, replace the CMP sensor.

This will help.
Thanks.
