How To replace Drive Shafts & U joints on Ford E series?


Drive Shaft and U joints replacing details are as follows:------



Removal & Installation
ONE-PIECE DRIVESHAFT
TWO-PIECE DRIVESHAFT

Procedure is given below:----


One-Piece Driveshaft



Specific to:
Ford E-150 2008-2009
Ford E-250 2008-2009
Ford E-350 Super Duty 2008-2009
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  3. Matchmark the driveshaft flange yoke to the pinion flange.
  4. Matchmark the driveshaft yoke to the transmission tailshaft.

  5. Remove the four driveshaft-to-pinion flange bolts.
  6. Using a suitable pry bar, disconnect the driveshaft flange yoke from the pinion flange.

  7. Lower the driveshaft and slide it of the output shaft.
To install:
  1. Lubricate the slip-yoke spline with grease.
  2. Check to see if a paint mark is present on the front of the driveshaft and on the end of the transmission output shaft. Align the factory-made paint marks on the output shaft and driveshaft and position the driveshaft in the transmission. Align your matchmarks if the factory marks are not present.
  3. Position the driveshaft flange yoke on the pinion flange with the index marks aligned and install the 4 new driveshaft-to-pinion flange bolts and tighten in sequence to 83 ft. lbs. (112 Nm).

Two-Piece Driveshaft



Specific to:
Ford E-150 2008-2009
Ford E-250 2008-2009
Ford E-350 Super Duty 2008-2009
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  3. Matchmark the driveshaft to the rear axle pinion flange.
  4. Remove and discard the four bolts and disconnect the rear driveshaft section.
  5. Support the coupling shaft with a suitable jack and remove the two center bearing bracket bolts.
  6. Matchmark the driveshaft flange and transmission. Remove and discard the four bolts.
  7. Remove the driveshaft.
To install:
  1. Align the matchmarks and install the driveshaft into position.
  2. Install the four driveshaft bolts and tighten to 76 ft. lbs. (103 Nm).
  3. Support the coupling shaft, install the center bearing bracket and tighten the mounting bolts to 46 ft. lbs. (63 Nm).
  4. Install the rear driveshaft section, position the flange yoke on the pinion shaft and tighten the flange bolts in sequence to 83 ft. lbs. (112 Nm).
