How to replace Engine Cooling Fan on Ford E series?

Ford E Series Cooling fan Removal.


Removal & Installation For
4.6L, 5.4L & 6.8L ENGINES
6.0L ENGINE


4.6L, 5.4L & 6.8L Engines



Specific to:
Ford E-150 2008-2009
Ford E-250 2008-2009
Ford E-350 Super Duty 2008-2009
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  3. Drain the cooling system.
  4. Remove the air intake assembly.
  5. Disconnect and position the radiator upper hose and the overflow hose from the radiator aside.
  6. Disconnect the coolant degas bottle and power steering hose from the shroud.
  7. Using the Fan Clutch Pulley Holding Wrench and Fan Clutch Hub Nut Wrench, loosen the fan clutch.
    NOTE
    The fan clutch assembly nut has a right-hand thread and must be rotated counterclockwise to remove it.
  8. Carefully rotate the fan and fan clutch assembly counterclockwise until the assembly is free from the coolant pump. Place the fan and fan clutch into the shroud opening.
  9. Disconnect the lower radiator hose retaining clamp from the shroud.
  10. If equipped, disconnect the underbody splash shield from the shroud.
  11. Remove the mounting bolts and the fan, fan clutch and shroud.
To install:

WARNING
Use extreme care when installing the fan, fan clutch and shroud. Failure to do so will cause damage to the radiator.

  1. Carefully position the cooling fan, fan clutch and shroud into the vehicle as an assembly.
  2. Install the fan shroud bolts and tighten to 53 ft. lbs. (6 Nm).
  3. Using the Fan Clutch Pulley Holding Wrench and the Fan Clutch Hub Nut Wrench, install the cooling fan and tighten the nut as follows:

    4.6L and 5.4L Engines: 41 ft. lbs. (55 Nm)
    6.8L Engines: 98 ft. lbs. (133 Nm).
  4. Connect the lower radiator hose retaining clamp to the shroud.
  5. If equipped, connect the underbody splash shield to the shroud.
  6. Connect the radiator upper hose and the overflow hose to the radiator.
    WARNING
    The coolant hose must be mounted in the lower hole and power steering hose in the upper hole or damage to the hoses may occur.
  7. Connect the coolant degas bottle and power steering hose to the shroud.
  8. Install the air intake assembly.
  9. Refill the cooling system to the correct level.

6.0L Engine



Specific to:
Ford E-350 Super Duty 2008-2009
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2. Remove the radiator. For additional information, refer to the following section, -Radiator, Removal & Installation.-
  3. Disconnect the electrical connector. Release the wiring from the stator.
    NOTE
    Use a hole in the fan hub to prevent the fan from turning.
  4. Using the special tool, loosen the fan clutch by turning the wrench counterclockwise. Remove the cooling fan and clutch.

  5. Remove the bolts and cooling fan stator assembly.

  6. To install, reverse the removal procedure. Torque the stator bolts to 40 Nm (30 ft. lbs.) and the fun clutch to 133 Nm (98 ft. lbs.).
