The accessory drive belt tension is control by an automatic belt tensioner. Check that the belt length indicator, if equipped, on the belt tensioner is in the acceptable belt installation and wear range. If the indicator is in the belt replacement range, either an incorrect belt is installed or the belt is worn beyond the service limit. Install a new belt as necessary.

Ford E-350 Super Duty 2008-2009
Inspect the drive belt for signs of glazing or cracking. A glazed belt will be perfectly smooth from slippage, while a good belt will have a slight texture of fabric visible. Cracks will usually start at the inner edge of the belt and run outward. All worn or damaged drive belts should be replaced immediately.
Removal & Installation
4.6L, 5.4L & 6.8L Engines

Ford E-350 Super Duty 2008-2009
- Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
- Disconnect the negative battery cable.
- Remove the air intake assembly.
- Rotate the tensioner clockwise and remove the drive belt.
- Installation is the reverse order of removal. Refer to illustration for the proper routing. For additional information, refer to the following section, -Accessory Belt Routing, Removal & Installation.-
Specific to:
Ford E-350 Super Duty 2008-2009
- Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
- Disconnect the negative battery cable.
- Remove the engine fan. For additional information, refer to the following section, -Engine Fan, Removal & Installation.-
- Rotate the tensioner clockwise and remove the accessory drive belt.
- Installation is the reverse order of removal.
