REMOVAL & INSTALLATION
2.7L Engines
- Disconnect the negative battery cable.
- Drain the engine oil.
- Remove the oil pan. For additional information, refer to the following section, -Oil Pan, Removal & Installation.-
- Press the chain tensioner off of the oil pump chain, and remove the chain from the oil pump.
- Remove the oil pump, pick-up tube and O-ring.
To install:
- Clean all of the sealing surfaces.
- Position the oil pump onto the drive chain and reset tensioner.
- Install the oil pump mounting bolts and tighten to 13 ft. lbs. (18 Nm).
- Install the oil pan.
- Connect the negative battery cable.
- Refill the engine with oil to the correct level.
- Disconnect the negative battery cable.
- Drain the engine oil.
- Remove the oil pan. For additional information, refer to the following section, -Oil Pan, Removal & Installation.-
- Remove the oil pump cover.
- Remove the mounting bolts and remove the oil pump.
To install:
- Clean the strainer of the oil pump and replace the sealing ring. Fill the oil pump with engine oil so that oil is delivered when the engine is started.
- Install the oil pump. Tighten the bolts to 14 ft. lbs. (19 Nm).
- Install the oil pump cover and tighten the bolts to 9 ft. lbs. (12 Nm).
- Install the oil pan.
- Connect the negative battery cable.
- Fill the engine with oil to the correct level.
- Start then engine and check for leaks.
- Disconnect the negative battery cable.
- Drain the engine oil.
- Remove the upper and lower oil pans. For additional information, refer to the following section, -Oil Pan, Removal & Installation.-
- Remove the oil suction tube bolt.
- Press the oil pump chain tensioner to completely remove the tension from the oil pump chain.
- Remove the oil pump chain.
- Remove the oil pump bolts.
- Remove the oil pump and suction tube.
To install:
- Install the oil pump and suction tube.
- Install the oil suction tube bolt.
- Pressure the oil pump chain tensioner to completely remove the tension from the oil pump chain.
- Install the oil pump bolts.
- Install the upper and lower oil pans.
- Connect the negative battery.
- Refill the engine with oil to the correct level.
