3.5L Engine Oil Pan Replacing on Dodge Sprinter?

The complete procedure to replace Oil pan.

The details cover Dodge Sprinter Van and Truck models.

The Procedure with diagrams to replace both upper and lower Oil pan is as follows:---

3.5L Engines
Lower Oil Pan
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Drain the engine oil.
  3. Remove the engine oil dipstick and dipstick tube.
  4. Remove the lower oil pan mounting bolts.
  5. Use a bolt in the oil pan boss to carefully pull the lower oil pan from the upper oil pan.

To install:
  1. Install the oil dipstick tube and tighten the mounting bolt to 80 inch lbs. (9 Nm).
  2. Remove any sealant residues with an adhesive and sealant remover. Do not use any sharp-edged tools or abrasive paper as this can damage the sealing surfaces. Make sure the sealing surfaces are clean and dry before applying the RTV.
  3. Apply Loctite® 7200 or equivalent to the mating surface of the lower oil pan.
  4. Install the lower oil pan and tighten the mounting bolts in a crisscross pattern to 80 inch lbs. (9 Nm).
  5. Install the oil dipstick.
  6. Install the oil drain plug, if not already installed.
  7. Refill the engine with oil to the correct level.
  8. Connect the negative battery cable.
Upper Oil Pan
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Drain the engine oil.
  3. Remove the air intake assembly.
  4. Remove the lower oil pan.
  5. Loosen the hose clamp bolt from the catalytic converter diesel particulate filter device at the connecting flange at the turbocharger.
  6. Remove the bracket bolt for the catalytic converter diesel particulate filter unit.
  7. Attach a suitable engine supporting shackle.
  8. Detach the charge air hose upstream of the charge air cooler.
  9. Detach the charge air hose on the engine charge air duct downstream of the charge air cooler.
  10. Unscrew the bracket for the transmission oil lines on the right side of the oil pan.
  11. Remove the transmission with the torque converter. For additional information, refer to the following section, -Automatic Transmission Assembly, Removal & Installation.-
  12. Remove the end cover.
  13. Remove the bolts that connect the left and right engine mount to the engine support.
  14. Using a suitable engine lift, carefully raise the engine.
  15. Remove the oil suction pipe.
  16. Remove the refrigerant compressor bolt at the top section of the oil pan.
  17. Remove the upper oil pan mounting bolts.
  18. Remove the upper oil pan.
To install:
  1. Install the oil suction pipe.
  2. Install the upper oil pan and tighten the mounting bolts.

  3. Connect the oil level switch connector.
  4. Install the oil dipstick guide tube.
  5. Install the bolt from catalytic converter diesel particulate filter unit bracket
  6. Tighten the bolt on hose clamp from catalytic converter diesel particulate filter device at connecting flange from turbocharger.
  7. Lower the engine into place.
  8. Install the bolts connecting the left and right engine mount to the engine support.
  9. Remove the engine supporting shackle.
  10. Install the charge air hose upstream of charge air cooler.
  11. Install the charge air hose on engine charge air duct downstream of charge air cooler.
  12. Install the bracket for transmission oil lines on the oil pan on the right.
  13. Install the transmission with the torque converter.
  14. Install the end cover.
  15. Install the refrigerant compressor bolt at oil pan top section.
  16. Install the lower oil pan.
  17. Install the air intake assembly.
  18. Connect negative battery cable.
  19. Refill the engine with oil to the correct level.
  20. Start the engine and check for leaks.
