Please Note that this Procedure Covers all U.S. and Canadian models of the Chrysler/Dodge Avenger, Chrysler Sebring Coupe and Dodge Stratus/ Stratus Coupe models for Year 1999 to 2005.
The cylinder head replacing on 3.0L Engine models.
- Relieve the fuel system pressure.
- Drain the cooling system.
- Remove or disconnect the following:
Negative battery cableTiming beltAlternatorIntake manifoldExhaust manifoldWater inlet pipeBreather and blow by hosesPositive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) hoseSpark plug cablesRocker arm coverTiming belt rear coverCylinder head and discard the gasket
To install:
- Clean all mating surfaces of any residual gasket material.
- Lubricate the threads of the cylinder head bolts with clean engine oil.
- Install or connect the following:
Cylinder head with a new gasket - Torque the bolts, in sequence, as follows:
- Step 1: 80 ft. lbs. (108 Nm).
- Step 2: Loosen all bolts in sequence.
- Step 3: 80 ft. lbs. (108 Nm).
- Install or connect the following:
Rear timing belt coverRocker arm coverSpark plug cablesPCV and blow by hosesBreather hoseWater inlet pipeExhaust manifoldIntake manifoldAlternatorTiming beltNegative battery cable - Fill the cooling system to the proper level.
- Start the vehicle, check for leaks and repair if necessary.
