The details and diagrams to replace Power Rack & Pinion Steering Gear.
The procedure mentioned here is for Cadillac DeVille, Eldorado, Seville 1999-2005 car models.
CAUTION
Failure to disconnect the intermediate shaft from the rack and pinion stub shaft can result in damage to the steering gear and/or intermediate shaft. This damage can cause loss of steering control, which could result in personal injury.
WARNING
The wheels of the vehicle must be straight-ahead and the steering column in the LOCK position before disconnecting the steering column or intermediate shaft from the steering gear. Failure to do so will cause the coil assembly in the steering column to become off-centered, which will cause damage to the coil assembly.
- Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
- Remove or disconnect the following:
WheelRoad sensing suspension position sensorOuter tie rod ends from the steering knucklesIntermediate shaft lower pinch boltIntermediate shaft from the power steering gearPower steering gear heat shieldVariable effort steering electrical connectorElectrical harness clips from the power steering gearPower steering pressure hose retaining clip at the power steering gear - Support the rear of the frame using a screw jack.
Power steering pressure and return hoses from the power steering gearFrame rear body mount bolts - Slowly lower the rear of the frame.
