Compressor Removal For Chrysler Pacifica?

In this chapter details are p[rovided to replace AC compressor for Chrysler car models.

The Procedure for 3.5L ENGINE, 3.8L ENGINE & 4.0L ENGINE Compressor removal and installation.

The details are as follows:----

3.5L Engine

CAUTION

Refer to the applicable warnings and cautions for this system before performing the following operation. Failure to follow the warnings and cautions could result in possible personal injury or death.

NOTE

The A/C compressor may be removed and repositioned without disconnecting the refrigerant lines or discharging the refrigerant system. Discharging is not necessary if servicing the compressor clutch, clutch field coil or engine.

NOTE

If an internal failure of the A/C compressor has occurred, the desiccant and filter assembly within the A/C receiver/drier must be replaced.

1. Recover the refrigerant from the refrigerant system.
2. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable.
3. Remove the radiator fan.
4. Remove the nuts that secure the A/C suction line and A/C discharge line to the A/C compressor.
5. Disconnect the A/C suction and discharge lines from the A/C compressor and remove and discard the O-ring seals and gaskets.
6. Install plugs in, or tape over the opened refrigerant line fittings and compressor ports.
7. Remove the accessory drive belt.
8. Disconnect the engine wire harness from the field coil connector located on the top of the A/C compressor.
9. Remove the engine wire harness from the wiring bracket located near the front of the A/C compressor.
10. Support the A/C compressor and remove the four bolts that secure the compressor to the mounting bracket.
11. Raise and support the vehicle.
12. Remove the underside compressor splash shield push-pins and the splash shield.
13. Remove the A/C compressor from the engine compartment.
14. If required, remove the four bolts that secure the compressor mounting bracket to the engine and remove the bracket.

To install:

WARNING

If the A/C compressor is being replaced, be certain to adjust the refrigerant system oil level. Failure to properly adjust the refrigerant oil level will prevent the A/C system from operating as designed and can cause serious A/C compressor damage.

NOTE

If an internal failure of the A/C compressor has occurred, the desiccant and filter assembly within the A/C receiver/drier must be replaced.

1. If removed, position the compressor mounting bracket onto the engine and install the retaining bolts. Tighten the bolts to 85 ft. lbs. (115 Nm.).
2. Position the A/C compressor onto the compressor mounting bracket and support the compressor.
3. Install the underside compressor splash shield and the push-pin retainers.
4. Lower the vehicle.
5. Loosely install the four bolts that secure the A/C compressor to the compressor mounting bracket. Tighten each of the bolts to 21 ft. lbs. (28 Nm) using the following sequence:
   1. The upper bolt at the front of the compressor.
   2. The lower bolt at the front of the compressor.
   3. The upper bolt at the rear of the compressor.
   4. The lower bolt at the rear of the compressor.
6. Connect the engine wire harness connector to the field coil connector.
7. Install the engine wire harness lead onto the engine wire harness bracket located near the front of the A/C compressor.
8. Install the accessory drive belt.
9. Remove the plugs or tape from the refrigerant line fittings and compressor ports.
10. Lubricate new rubber O-ring seals with clean refrigerant oil and install them and new gaskets onto the suction and discharge line fittings. Use only the specified O-rings as they are made of a special material for the R-134a system. Use only refrigerant oil of the type recommended for the A/C compressor in the vehicle.
11. Connect the suction and discharge lines to the A/C compressor.
12. Install the nuts that secure the A/C suction and discharge lines to the A/C compressor. Tighten the nuts to 17 ft. lbs. (23 Nm).
13. Install the radiator fan.
14. Reconnect the negative battery cable.
15. Evacuate the refrigerant system.
16. Charge the refrigerant system.

For 3.8L Engine the compressor removal procedure is same as 3.5L but the removal is slight different,the diagrams below will help:----

1. Remove the nuts that secure the A/C suction line and A/C discharge line to the A/C compressor.

1. Disconnect the A/C suction and discharge lines from the A/C compressor and remove and discard the O-ring seals and gaskets.
2. Install plugs in, or tape over the opened refrigerant line fittings and compressor ports.
3. Remove the accessory drive belt.
4. Disconnect the engine wire harness connector from the field coil connector located on the top of the A/C compressor.
5. Remove the engine wire harness from the wiring bracket located near the front of the A/C compressor.
6. Support the A/C compressor and remove the upper retaining bolts that secure the A/C compressor and the engine wire harness bracket to the engine.

7. Raise and support the vehicle.
8. Remove the accessory drive splash shield.
9. Remove the two lower retaining bolts that secure the A/C compressor to the engine and remove and compressor.

For 4.0L Engine the compressor removal procedure is same as 3.5L but the removal is slight different,the diagrams below will help:----

1. Reach up between the bottom of the front fascia and the front of the lower engine cradle and remove the nuts that secure the A/C suction line and A/C discharge line to the A/C compressor.

2. Disconnect the A/C suction and discharge lines from the A/C compressor and remove and discard the O-ring seals and gaskets.
3. Install plugs in, or tape over the opened refrigerant line fittings and compressor ports.
4. Disconnect the engine wire harness connector from the field coil connector located on the top of the A/C compressor.
   
   NOTE

   To remove the A/C compressor, the two front mounting studs must be first completely loosened from the engine and then removed along with the compressor as an assembly.
5. Remove the two nuts and completely loosen the two studs that secure the front of the A/C compressor to the engine.
6. Support the A/C compressor and remove the bolt that secures the rear of the A/C compressor to the engine.
7. Remove the A/C compressor along with the two studs from the engine compartment together as an assembly.
8. Remove the two studs from the mounting bosses located at the front of the A/C compressor.
