The procedure is as follows:-----

Adjustment

1. Loosen the alternator adjusting bolt.
2. Check the belt tension with a suitable belt tension gage.
3. Move the alternator until the gage indicates the proper tension.
4. Tighten the alternator adjusting bolt to 15 ft. lbs. (20 Nm).
   
   CAUTION

   Do not use belt dressing on the drive belt. Belt dressing causes the breakdown of the composition of the drive belt. Failure to follow this recommendation will damage the drive belt.

Inspection

Inspect the drive belt for signs of glazing or cracking. A glazed belt will be perfectly smooth from slippage, while a good belt will have a slight texture of fabric visible. Cracks will usually start at the inner edge of the belt and run outward. All worn or damaged drive belts should be replaced immediately.
