The complete step by step instructions with proper details to replace Chevy heater core is as follows:-----
- Disable the air bag system.
- Disconnect the negative battery cable.
- Drain the engine cooling system.
- Discharge and recovery the A/C refrigerant using approved recycling equipment.
- Remove or disconnect the following:
Glove box doorA pillar trim panelsDoor sill platesHinge pillar trim panelsLower center instrument panel extensionAccessory trim plate panelRadioA/C-heater control panelCenter air outletsLeft and right air outletsKnee bolster trim panel and bolsterInstrument luster bezelInstrument clusterHeadlight switchDaytime running light sensorUpper 3 instrument panel nutsUpper HVAC module screwsInstrument panel screws at instrument cluster and glove box openingsHazard warning light connectorSix passenger air bag fasteners and passenger air bag moduleTwo screws in passenger air bag openingOpen the left side compartment and remove the screwScrew at the back of the center storage compartmentGrasp the lower edge of the center storage compartment and the right lower edge of the instrument panel and pull out to disengage the clipsPartially pull out the instrument panel from the carrierRelease all the wiring harness clips from the instrument panel - With the aid of an assistant, carefully remove the instrument panel.
- Disconnect the heater hoses from the HVAC module.
- Disconnect the A/C lines from the thermal expansion valve.
- Disconnect all HVAC module electrical connectors.
- Remove the HVAC module retaining screws from the firewall
- Remove the HVAC module.
- Remove the core pipe clamp screws and clamp.
- Remove the heater core from the HVAC module.
To install:
- Install or connect the following:
Heater core to the HVAC moduleHeater core pipe clamp screws and clampHVAC moduleHVAC module retaining screws at the firewallHVAC module electrical connectorsA/C lines at the thermal expansion valveHeater hoses to HVAC moduleWith the aid of an assistant, carefully install the instrument panelWiring harness clips to instrument panelPush the lower edge of the center storage compartment and the right lower edge of the instrument panel in to engage the clipsScrew at the back of the center storage compartmentScrew inside the left side compartmentTwo screws in passenger air bag openingHazard warning light connectorPassenger air bag fasteners and passenger air bag module. Tighten the fasteners to 80 inch lbs. (9 Nm).Instrument panel screws at instrument cluster and glove box openingsUpper HVAC module screwsUpper 3 instrument panel nutsDaytime running light sensorHeadlight switchInstrument clusterInstrument luster bezelKnee bolster trim panel and bolsterLeft and right air outletsCenter air outletsA/C-heater control panelRadioAccessory trim plate panelLower center instrument panel extensionHinge pillar trim panelsDoor sill platesA pillar trim panelsGlove box door - Charge the A/C refrigerant using approved equipment.
- Refill the cooling system.
- Enable the air bag system.
- Connect the negative battery cable.
- Run the engine to normal operating temperatures; then, check the climate control operation and check for leaks.
