Cylinder Head Removal on Chevrolet Corvette?

Chevrolet Cylinder head replacing for Corvette car model.
The complete details to remove Cylinder head and proper procedure to install new Cylinder head is provided here in this chapter.

Follow the procedure mentioned below with help diagrams to complete the Cylinder head removal:----


  1. Drain the cooling system.
  2. Remove or disconnect the following:
    NOTE
    The cylinder head bolts are NOT reusable.



    Negative battery cable
    Rocker arm covers
    Rocker arms, refer to -Rocker arms, removal & installation- section.
    Pushrods
    Engine coolant air bleed pipe assembly
    Alternator mounting bracket, if removing left side
    Exhaust manifold, refer to -Exhaust Manifold- section
    Remove the intake manifold. Refer to Intake Manifold Replacement
    Remove the engine wiring harness ground bolt from the rear of the left cylinder head
    Reposition the engine wire harness ground strap away from the cylinder head
    Remove the cylinder head bolts



    Remove the cylinder head and gasket
To install:

  1. Clean all dirt, debris, and coolant from the engine block cylinder head bolt holes. Failure to remove all foreign material may result in damaged threads, improperly tightened fasteners or damage to components.
    NOTE
    Do not use any type of sealant on the cylinder head gasket, unless specified.
  2. Install the new cylinder head gasket onto the locating pins.
    NOTE
    The cylinder head gaskets must be installed in the proper direction and position.
  3. Install the cylinder head onto the locating pins and gasket and tighten the bolts in sequence as follows:
    NOTE
    New cylinder head bolts must be used.
  4. Tighten the cylinder head bolts.
    1. M11 bolts (1-10): 22 ft. lbs. (30 Nm)
    2. M11 bolts (1-10): plus 90 degrees
    3. M11 bolts (1-10): plus 70 degrees.
    4. M8 bolts (11-15): 22 ft. lbs. (30 Nm) Begin with the center bolt (11) and alternating side-to-side, work outward tightening all of the bolts.
  5. Position the engine ground strap against the cylinder head, if installing left side.
  6. Install or connect the following:

    Engine wiring harness ground bolt and tighten to 24 ft. lbs. (32 Nm)
    Exhaust manifold, refer to -Exhaust Manifold- section
    Alternator mounting bracket, if installing left side
    Engine coolant air bleed pipe assembly
    Pushrods
    Rocker arms, refer to -Rocker arms, removal & installation- section
    Rocker arm covers
    Negative battery cable
  7. Refill the cooling system.
  8. Start the engine and check for leaks.
