The procedure with step by step directions and Helpful diagrams is as follows:----
NOTE
After all components are installed on the engine, a DRBIII® scan tool is necessary to perform the camshaft and crankshaft timing relearn procedure.
- Properly relieve the fuel system pressure.
- Drain the cooling system.
- Remove or disconnect the following:
The negative battery cableThe air cleaner inlet duct and air cleanerThe Inlet Air Temperature (IAT) sensor and make-up air hoseThe upper intake manifoldThe dipstick tube fastenerThe lower intake manifold support bracket on turbo modelsThe fuel supply line from the fuel railThe heater tube support bracketThe upper radiator hoseThe heater supply hosesThe accessory drive beltThe exhaust pipe from the manifold - On turbo models perform the following:
- Remove the turbocharger heat shields.
- Remove the elbow support bracket.
- Remove the turbocharger support bracket.
- Remove the oil return, oil supply, coolant return and coolant supply hoses.
- Remove or disconnect the following:
NOTEThe cylinder head bolts must be inspected before they can be reused. If the threads of bolts are stretched, they must be replaced. Check for thread stretching by holding a scale or other straightedge against the threads. If all the threads do not contact the scale, the bolts must be replaced.
WARNINGUse only a plastic scraper to clean the mating surfaces. NEVER use metal, as this may gouge the surfaces and cause leaks.
The power steering pump, move it aside. DO NOT disconnect the fluid lines. The ignition coil pack wiring connectorThe ignition coil pack and bracketThe cam sensor electrical connectorThe timing beltThe timing belt idler pulleyThe camshaft sprocketThe power steering pump reservoir and bracket, if necessary on Non-Turbo modelsThe cylinder head coverThe camshaft and cam followersThe cylinder head bolts, working from the center outwardThe cylinder head - Cover the combustion chambers, then use a plastic scraper to thoroughly and carefully clean the engine block and cylinder head mating surfaces.
To install:
- Install the cylinder head with a new gasket. Make certain that the part number on the new gasket is facing up.
- Lubricate the cylinder head bolt threads with clean engine oil.
- Torque the cylinder head bolts, in the following sequence:
- Step 1: 25 ft. lbs. (34 Nm).
- Step 2: 50 ft. lbs. (68 Nm).
- Step 3: 50 ft. lbs. (68 Nm).
- Step 4: An additional 1 / 4 turn.
- Install or connect the following:
The camshaft and cam follower assembliesThe cylinder head coverThe rear timing belt cover and pulleyThe camshaft sprocketsThe timing beltThe cam sensor wiring connectorThe ignition coil and spark plug wiresThe power steering pump reservoir and bracket, if removed - On turbo models perform the following:
- Install the oil return, oil supply, coolant return and coolant supply hoses.
- Install the elbow support bracket.
- Install the turbocharger heat shields.
- Install the turbocharger support bracket.
- Install or connect the following:
The exhaust pipe to the manifoldThe accessory drive beltsThe lower intake manifoldThe upper radiator and heater supply hoseThe heater support bracketThe lower intake manifold support bracket on turbo modelsThe dipstick tube fastenerThe power brake vacuum hose to the intake manifoldThe fuel supply line to the fuel railThe vacuum lines and electrical wiringThe upper intake manifoldThe air cleaner inlet duct and air cleanerThe IAT sensor and make up hoseThe negative battery cable - Fill the cooling system.
- Turn the ignition switch ON , and access the -Miscellaneous- screen.
- Select the -re-learn cam/crank- option, then follow the instructions on the scan tool screen.
These details will help.
Thanks.
