Dodge Caravan and Chrysler Town and Country: Blend Door Actuator Removal?

How to replace blend door actuator on Dodge Caravan and How to replace blend door actuator on Chrysler Town and country.

In this chapter details are provided for Dodge Caravan and Chrysler Town and Country Blend door actuator removal.

The procedure is as follows:----

  1. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable.
  2. Recover the refrigerant from the refrigerant system.
  3. Drain the engine cooling system.
  4. Raise and support the vehicle.
    NOTE
To prevent any contaminates from entering the rear heating and A/C system, make sure that the area around the underbody line connections is clean of any dirt or foreign residue prior to disconnecting the underbody lines.
  5. Remove the nut that secures the underbody refrigerant extension lines and sealing plate to the rear A/C expansion valve which extend through the rear floor panel behind the right rear wheel housing.
  6. Disengage the metal retaining strap from the sealing plate and disconnect the underbody refrigerant extension lines from the rear A/C expansion valve.
  7. Remove and discard the O-ring seals from the underbody refrigerant line fittings.
  8. Install plugs in, or tape over the opened underbody refrigerant line fittings and rear expansion valve ports.
  9. Disconnect the underbody heater lines from the rear heater core tubes which extend through the rear floor panel in front of the right rear wheel housing by releasing the insert in each rear quick connect fitting and carefully pulling downward on the fittings while using a slight twisting motion.
  10. Lower the vehicle.
  11. Remove right rear quarter panel and D-pillar trim panels.
  12. Remove the metal support strap from the rear quarter panel and floor.
  13. Remove the rear floor distribution duct.
  14. Remove the rear ceiling distribution ducts.
  15. Disconnect the body wire harness from the rear HVAC wire harness connector.
  16. Remove the two nuts that secure the rear heater core tubes to the floor panel.
  17. Remove the bolt that secures the rear heater core tubes to the right inner quarter panel.
  18. Remove the two bolts that secure the rear HVAC housing to the two metal brackets located on the rear inner quarter panel.
  19. Remove rear HVAC housing and place it on a workbench.
  20. Disconnect the rear HVAC wire harness connector from the rear blend door actuator.
  21. Remove the two screws that secure the rear blend door actuator to the back of the rear HVAC housing and remove the actuator.
To install:
  1. Position the rear blend door actuator onto the back of the rear HVAC housing. If necessary, rotate the actuator slightly to align the splines on the actuator output shaft with those in the rear blend door pivot shaft.
  2. Install the two screws that secure the rear blend door actuator to the rear HVAC housing. Tighten the screws to 17 inch lbs. (2 Nm).
  3. Connect the rear HVAC wire harness connector to the rear blend door actuator. Install the rear HVAC housing.
  4. Reconnect the negative battery cable and calibrate the A/C heater control as follows:
    1. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
    2. If equipped with the manual temperature control system, press and hold the Rear Wipe/Wash and Recirculation buttons for at least five seconds. If equipped with the automatic temperature control system, simultaneously press and hold the Power and Recirculation buttons on the A/C-heater control for at least five seconds. The manual A/C heater control Rear Wipe/Wash button light and Recirculation button light, or the automatic A/C heater control Delay and Recirculation graphics will begin to flash when the calibration procedure has begun.
    3. The calibration procedure should take less than two minutes to complete for the manual A/C heater control, and less than twenty seconds for the automatic A/C heater control. When the lights or graphics stop flashing, the calibration procedure is complete.
    4. If the lights or graphics continue to flash beyond the two minute (manual) or twenty second (automatic) calibration time, it indicates that the A/C heater control has detected a failure and a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) has been set. The lights or graphics will continue to flash even after the ignition switch is cycled off and on, until a successful calibration is completed or until the vehicle has been driven about 8 miles (13 km).

    These details will help.
    Thanks.
