How to replace Cadillac Brake Caliper?

GM Cadillac Deville/Fleetwood/ELD/Seville 1990-1998 Brake Caliper replacing.

The complete procedure with details and diagrams.

The procedure is as follows:----

1. If equipped with anti-lock brakes, depressurize the hydraulic accumulator. Refer to Teves Mk II Anti-Lock Brake System.

CAUTION

The hydraulic system contains brake fluid at extremely high pressure. It is mandatory that the system be depressurized before disconnecting any hoses, lines or fittings, or personal injury may result.

2. Use a syringe or similar tool to remove ² / ₃ of the brake fluid from the master cylinder reservoir.
3. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
4. Remove the wheel and tire assembly, then reinstall 2 lug nuts to retain the disc brake rotor.
5. Position suitable pliers over the inboard brake pad and the inboard caliper housing to bottom the piston in the caliper.
6. If the caliper is to be removed from the vehicle, remove the bolt attaching the brake hose to the caliper. Discard the gaskets. Plug the openings in the caliper and brake hose to prevent fluid loss.
7. Remove the caliper mounting bolt and sleeve assemblies, then remove the caliper from the rotor and mounting bracket. If only the brake pads are being replaced, suspend the caliper with wire from the coil spring.

WARNING

Do not let the caliper hang from the brake hose. The hose may become damaged, causing possible brake failure.

To install:

8. Inspect the mounting bolt and sleeve assemblies for corrosion and the bushings for cuts and nicks. Replace parts as necessary; do not try to polish away corrosion.
9. Coat the inside diameter of the bushings with silicone grease, then install the caliper over the rotor in the mounting bracket.
10. Install the mounting bolt and sleeve assemblies and tighten to 38 ft. lbs. (51 Nm).
11. Measure the clearance between the caliper and the bracket stops, it should be 0.005-0.012 in. (0.13-0.30mm). If the clearance is not as specified, remove the caliper and file the ends of the bracket stops until the proper clearance is obtained.
12. Connect the brake hose to the caliper with the attaching bolt, using new gaskets. Tighten the bolt to 33 ft. lbs. (45 Nm).
13. Bleed the brake system.
14. Install the wheel and tire assembly and lower the vehicle.
15. Check the brake fluid level in the master cylinder and add fluid as necessary.

1990-91 Eldorado and Seville

7. Inspect the bolt boots and mounting bracket support bushings for cuts, tears or deterioration and replace as necessary. Inspect the mounting bolts for corrosion and replace them and the bushings if any is found; do not try to polish away corrosion.
8. Position the caliper over the rotor in the mounting bracket, making sure the bolt boots are in place.
9. Lubricate the shaft of the mounting bolts with silicone grease. Install the bolts and tighten to 63 ft. lbs. (85 Nm).
10. Position the brake hose on the disc brake caliper. Connect the hose to the caliper using the attaching bolt and 2 new gaskets. Tighten the bolt to 32 ft. lbs. (44 Nm).
11. Bleed the brake system.
12. Install the wheel and tire assembly and lower the vehicle.
13. Check the brake fluid level in the master cylinder and add fluid as necessary.

1991-93 Deville and Fleetwood; 1992-98 Eldorado and Seville

1. Use a syringe or similar tool to remove ² / ₃ of the brake fluid from the master cylinder reservoir.
2. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
3. Remove the wheel and tire assembly, then reinstall 2 lug nuts to retain the disc brake rotor.
4. If the caliper is to be removed from the vehicle, remove the bolt attaching the brake hose to the caliper. Discard the gaskets. Plug the openings in the caliper and brake hose to prevent fluid loss.
5. Install a large C-clamp over the top of the caliper housing and against the back of the outboard pad. Slowly tighten the C-clamp until the piston is pushed into the caliper far enough to slide the caliper off the rotor.
6. Remove the caliper mounting bolts and sleeves, then remove the caliper. If only the brake pads are being replaced, suspend the caliper with wire from the coil spring.

To install:

7. Inspect the mounting bolt and sleeve assemblies for corrosion and the bushings for cuts and nicks. Replace parts as necessary; do not try to polish away corrosion.
8. Coat the inside diameter of the bushings with silicone grease.
9. Install the mounting bolt and sleeve assemblies through the bushings using hand pressure only. If greater than hand force is required or mechanical assistance is needed, remove the mounting bolt and sleeve assemblies along with the bushings.
10. Inspect the mounting bores for corrosion. If there is any corrosion, remove it using a 1 in. wheel cylinder honing brush. Clean the mounting bores with clean denatured alcohol, replace the bushings and lubricate.
11. Install the caliper over the rotor in the mounting bracket. Tighten the mounting bolts to 38 ft. lbs. (51 Nm).
12. Position the brake hose on the disc brake caliper. Connect the hose to the caliper using the attaching bolt and 2 new gaskets. Tighten the bolt to 32 ft. lbs. (44 Nm).
13. Bleed the brake system.
14. Install the wheel and tire assembly and lower the vehicle.
15. Check the brake fluid level in the master cylinder and add fluid as necessary.
