Timing Belt Cover Replacing on Cadillac Catera?

How to replace Timing belt cover.
In this chapter the details are provided for replacing timing belt cover Catera car models.

The complete procedure is mentioned here with all required details and important diagrams.
The diagrams make the task easier to complete this task.


Timing Belt Cover
REMOVAL & INSTALLATION Procedure is as follows :-----


  1. Remove the intake air resonator.
  2. Remove the intake plenum.
  3. Raise and support the vehicle.
  4. Remove the 4 engine splash shield bolts.
  5. Remove the engine splash shield.
  6. Counterhold the generator bolt on the back side of the generator to remove the AIR injection crossover pipe bracket nut (6) from the generator bolt.
  7. Remove the AIR crossover pipe bushing nut (1), located on the left side of the engine, from the bracket.
  8. Remove the AIR crossover pipe clamps from the rubber hose.
  9. Remove the AIR crossover pipe from the AIR pipe hoses (2).
  10. Lower the vehicle.
  11. Remove the AIR check valve (8) hose clamp.
  12. Remove the AIR check valve hose from the check valve.
  13. Remove the AIR crossover pipe (4).
  14. Loosen the water pump pulley bolts.
  15. Loosen the power steering pump pulley bolts.

  16. Remove the A/C compressor hose support strap bolt (1) from the AIR injection crossover bracket.

  17. Remove the accessory drive belt.
    WARNING
    Use caution when releasing the retaining tabs to reduce the risk of breakage when removing the wiring harness channel cover.
  18. Pull forward and remove the wiring harness channel cover.
  19. Release the plastic retaining tabs on the wiring harness channel extension from the right lower side of the wiring harness channel and pull forward to remove. Note the wiring harness routing.
  20. Remove the wiring harness from the channel.
  21. Remove the water pump pulley bolts.
  22. Remove the water pump pulley.
  23. Remove the power steering pump pulley bolts.
  24. Remove the power steering pump pulley.

  25. Remove the accessory drive belt tensioner bolts.
  26. Remove the accessory drive belt tensioner.

  27. Remove the front timing belt cover bolts.
  28. Remove the front timing belt cover.
  29. Transfer wiring harness channel if applicable.
  30. Inspect the sealing strip on the outer edge of the front timing belt cover for cracks and/or tears. Replace as necessary.
To install:
  1. Install the front timing belt cover.
  2. Install the front timing belt cover bolts and tighten to 71 inch lbs. (8 Nm).

  3. Install the accessory drive belt tensioner.
  4. Install the accessory drive belt tensioner bolts and tighten to 30 ft. lbs. (40 Nm).
  5. Install the power steering pump pulley.
  6. Install the power steering pump pulley bolts and tighten to 15 ft. lbs. (20 Nm).
  7. Install the water pump pulley and tighten to 71 inch lbs. (8 Nm).
  8. Route the wiring harness into the wiring harness channel.
  9. Install the wiring harness channel cover.
  10. Install the wiring harness channel extension to the right lower side of the wiring harness channel.
  11. Install the accessory drive belt.
  12. Install the A/C compressor hose support strap bolt to the AIR injection crossover bracket and tighten to 71 inch lbs. (8 Nm).
  13. Install AIR crossover pipe.
  14. Install the AIR check valve to the AIR hose.
  15. Install the AIR check valve hose clamp.
  16. Raise the vehicle.
  17. Install the AIR crossover pipe to the AIR pipe hoses.
  18. Install the AIR crossover pipe clamps to the AIR pipe hoses.
  19. Install the AIR crossover pipe bushing nut. Tighten to 108 inch lbs. (12 Nm).
  20. Install the generator bolt and nut securing the AIR injection crossover pipe support bracket and tighten to 30 ft. lbs. (40 Nm).
  21. Install the engine splash shield.
  22. Install the 4 engine splash shield bolts and tighten to 89 inch lbs. (10 Nm).
  23. Lower the vehicle.
  24. Install the intake plenum.
  25. Install the intake air resonator.
