Cylinder Head Replacing for
2.8L & 3.6L EnginesLeft Side
- Drain the cooling system.
- Relieve the fuel system pressure.
- Remove or disconnect the following:
NOTEDo NOT remove the oil filter adapter.
Negative battery cableSpark plugsFront coverLeft bank secondary camshaft timing chainCoolant temperature sensorWiring harnesses from the cylinder headPower steering pump mounting boltsSurge tank hoseWiring harness bracketCatalytic converterOil level indicator tubeOil filter adapter upper bolt
Exhaust manifoldCylinder head
To install:
- Install the exhaust manifold to the cylinder head. Tighten the bolts to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).
- Install the cylinder head with a new gasket. Tighten using new bolts as follows:
- Step 1: Bolts 1-8 to 33 ft. lbs. (45 Nm).
- Step 2: Bolts 1-8 plus 120 degrees.
- Step 3: Bolts 9-10 to 11 ft. lbs. (15 Nm).
- Step 4: Bolts 9-10 plus 60 degrees.
- Install or connect the following:
Oil filter adapter upper bolt. Tighten to 17 ft. lbs. (23 Nm).Oil level indicator tubeCatalytic converterWiring harnesses bracketSurge tank hosePower steering pump bolts. Tighten bolts to 37 ft. lbs. (50 Nm).Wiring harnessesCoolant temperature sensorLeft bank secondary camshaft timing chainSpark plugsFront coverNegative battery cable - Fill the cooling system to the correct level.
- Start the engine and check for leaks.
- Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
- Drain the cooling system.
- Relieve the fuel system pressure.
- Remove or disconnect the following:
Negative battery cableSpark plugsFront coverRight bank secondary camshaft timing chainCoolant hosesCatalytic converterWiring harnesses from the cylinder headExhaust manifoldCylinder head
To install:
- Install the exhaust manifold to the cylinder head. Tighten the bolts to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).
- Install the cylinder head with a new gasket. Tighten the bolts as follows:
- Step 1: Tighten to 33 ft. lbs. (45 Nm).
- Step 2: Tighten an additional 120 degrees.
- Install or connect the following:
Wiring harnesses to the cylinder headCatalytic converterCoolant hosesRight bank secondary camshaft timing chainSpark plugsFront coverNegative battery cable - Fill the cooling system to the correct level.
- Start the engine and check for leaks.
