The Chevy Malibu evap core replacing procedure is as follows:-----
- Recover the refrigerant.
- Disable the Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) system.
- Disconnect the negative battery cable.
- Drain the coolant.
- Remove the HVAC module assembly.
- Remove the lower center floor air outlet duct.
- Remove the upper center floor air outlet duct screws
- Remove the upper center floor air outlet duct.
- Remove the air inlet assembly screws.
- Remove the air inlet assembly.
- Remove the air temperature actuator screws.
- Remove the air temperature actuator
- Remove the mode actuator screws
- Remove the mode actuator.
- Drill out the mode valve assembly heat stakes.
- Remove the mode valve assembly screws.
- Remove the mode valve assembly.
- Drill out the lower HVAC module case heat stakes.
- Remove the lower HVAC module case screws.
- Remove the lower HVAC module case.
- Remove the thermal expansion valve screws.
- Remove the thermal expansion valve.
- Remove and discard the sealing washers
- Remove the evaporator.
To install:
- If replacing the evaporator core, add 1.5 oz PAG® oil directly to the evaporator core.
- Install the evaporator.
- Install the thermal expansion valve and tighten the screws to 62 inch. lbs. (7 Nm).
- Install the lower HVAC module case.
- Install the lower HVAC module case screws and tighten to 13 inch. lbs. (1.5 Nm).
- Install the mode valve assembly and tighten the mounting screws to 13 inch. lbs. (1.5 Nm).
- Install the mode actuator and tighten the mounting screws to 13 inch. lbs. (1.5 Nm).
- Install the air temperature actuator and tighten the mounting screws to 13 inch. lbs. (1.5 Nm).
- Install the air inlet assembly. Tighten the screws to 13 inch. lbs. (1.5 Nm).
- Install the upper center floor air outlet duct and tighten the mounting screws to13 inch. lbs. (1.5 Nm).
- Install the lower center floor air outlet duct.
- Install the HVAC module assembly.
- Evacuate and charge the A/C system.
- Enable SIR system.
- Connect the negative battery cable.
- Leak test the fittings.
